We are looking for a new team member on our small Team based in Hamburg, Germany. 

The Technical Advisory Team supports (amongst other services) all major INGOs and development contractors in the development and aid sector worldwide with proposal writing services, change projects and governance reform.   We help our partner organisation write the best proposal possible, streamline their operations, increase efficiency and improve stakeholder services. Often we support clients in their applications to institutional donors such as the European Union, DFID, USAID, GIZ & KfW as well as foundations and private sector organisations. 
What we do & how you will help
  • We work with INGOs, Governments and development contractors to make development assistance and humanitarian aid better.  You will support our partners with writing high quality proposals on various themes, mostly based from our Hamburg office, sometimes in country. 
  • We grew a lot these past few years, and we are not done yet! To increase our disruptive impact in the development & aid sector, we have an ambitious growth strategy, especially in regards to the UK and EU aid funded organisations. You can help us write quality proposals, put the right teams together and network with donors, NGOs and development contractors. 
  • We are a young, dynamic company, continue to grow and we have a modern, e-based infrastructure with a networked operating model.

 Duties & Responsibilities 
  • (50-70%) You will draft and submit project proposals from MzN and our clients to international donors. This includes:-
    • Work with your colleagues to identify new business opportunities 
    • leading document planning and production, which may include drafting content with subject matter experts
    • project manage the bid process, from pre-Expression of Interest through to proposal writing and negotiation, reporting to and receiving support from the Business Development Director and other team members
    • when writing a bid with a team leader, for a client or in a consortium, you are holding team members at all levels accountable to agreed deliverables when necessary
    • assisting your colleagues with building consortia and/or project team with other aid and development delivery partners, devising project plans, building project budgets and writing and/or assisting to write project delivery methodologies. Assuming a good skill development, you will be in charge of a complete proposal production process with a partner (or for MzN).
    • proactively look for new methodologies, presentations, approaches etc. deliver proposals in different ways
  • (30%-50%) You will support project teams in their delivery by:-
    • liaising with the client and build a positive relationship
    • support the consultant in delivery of quality outputs through research, drafting, data analysis 
    • quality checking written outputs,
    • weekly check-ins to monitor work progress and provide administrative support to project teams
  • Where time allows, you will work with your MzN colleagues in London and Hamburg to support project teams in the delivery of their work. Your should expect to travel internationally up to 20% of your work time.  
  • Work with the finance administrator to deal with all financial aspects of the work (invoicing, purchases).

Skills & Experience you need
  • At least 3 years relevant experience in bid writing. Exceptional graduates with less experience might be considered. 
  • Be an impatient optimist and demand excellent quality, from your colleagues and partners and yourself. Be keen to improve the development & humanitarian sector to create a better world.
  • Excellent proposal writing abilities (in English).
  • German language skills are an advantage. Note the working language is English.
  • Current and deep knowledge of institutional donor's processes, trends and systems.
  • Excellent organisation and customer service skills.
  • Astute commercial awareness and a keen willingness to grow the organisation and our impact.
  • Systematic, well organised manager of your own workload.
  • Relevant degree (undergraduate or postgraduate).
  • A keen interest to develop a long term career in the development and aid sector and activity search self-development opportunities (we will always support them!) .
  • Ability to think out of the box.
What we offer
You will be based in our new office in Hamburg, Germany. You will be paid a competitive salary based on your experience, plus access to a comprehensive training scheme. We also provide free language training in the office (starting in Winter '17).  The contract is limited to 1,5 years, including 6 months probation period, and we aim to make this a permanent contract. We offer a maximum of flexibility as to work times and holiday times to suit your preferences.
